Teacher candidates must have access to a K–12 special education classroom to complete the program assignments. Teacher candidates must be prepared to complete a full-time, 16-week student teaching component at the end of the program. Eight weeks of student teaching is completed in a regular education setting and 8 weeks is completed in a resource room, self-contained class, or in a special school for students with disabilities. These special education settings must include at least 3 or more of the following disability categories: mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, physical/health impairments; and they must be completed with a certified special education teacher. MS in Nursing - Nurse Leadership in Health Care Systems
Master of Science in Nursing with an Emphasis in Leadership in Health Care Systems (RN to MSN). This robust program is a blend of the existing Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing programs. The RN to BSN curriculum will be truncated by several courses whose content will be covered in the Master’s materials. After the third semester, students will be eligible to transfer into any of the M.S. in Nursing concentrations. The Leadership in Health Care Systems emphasis provides the knowledge, values, and skills needed for advanced generalist practice in an evolving health care system. The coursework in leadership provides an overview of leadership styles and the functioning of organizations with an emphasis on communication skills required to establish and maintain effective relationships. Courses include exploration of nursing theory, roles, and practice, as well as research, ethics, policy and finance in the health care system. In addition, a capstone course provides an opportunity for students to develop an evidence-based project proposal addressing a problem or issue in professional practice. Graduates of this program are equipped to excel as effective managers and leaders in a health care setting, including roles such as assistant director, director, vice president, or chief of nursing.
MS in Nursing - Nursing Education
Master of Science in Nursing with an Emphasis in Nursing Education. This specialized degree program prepares advanced-professional nurses to address the ever changing and expanding educational needs of the nursing profession. The program is designed for those students in the Master of Science in Nursing program who are interested in pursuing or advancing in a position in nursing education. The program prepares students for a variety of roles in nursing education, either as clinical educators or academic educators in both traditional and nontraditional settings in nursing education. Graduates are prepared to assess educational needs, plan programs to meet those needs, and evaluate the outcomes of their programs. The curriculum includes an in-depth examination of nursing theory, roles and practice; research, ethics, policy and finance in the health care system; and pathophysiology, pharmacology and health assessment for nurse educators. In addition, curriculum design and technology for nursing education is explored. A capstone course provides an opportunity for students to develop an evidence-based project proposal that addresses a problem or issue in professional practice. Graduates of this program will possess the knowledge and skills needed to successfully teach nursing in a wide variety of settings. A post-master’s certificate program is available to those nurses who already have a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S. or M.S.N.) degree.
MBA and Master of Science in Nursing Leadership (Dual Degree)

The program provides students with an opportunity to develop cross-functional business management skills, preparing business practitioners for advanced management and executive positions combined with specialized study in leadership theory and application. MS in Addiction Counseling
Master of Science in Addiction Counseling. As society understands more about addiction, more people are seeking treatment and more drug offenders are being sent to treatment programs rather than prison. As a result, demand for substance abuse counselors is expected to increase much faster than demand for most other occupations through 2018. This next-level degree program is designed to meet the needs of learners who wish to pursue a career as an addiction counseling professional. The program prepares students to treat substance abuse and dependency disorders. Courses provide a comprehensive survey of counseling theories, group counseling, social and cultural issues, psychopharmacology, family issues, and more. In addition, a supervised internship provides 150 contact hours of opportunity for student to develop their counseling skills. In many states, a master’s degree is required for the highest level of licensing or certification. Graduates of this program are prepared to meet the academic requirements for licensure in Arizona as a both a Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (LASAC) and a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC). Additionally, program graduates from most other states will be academically prepared to begin the process of seeking certification and licensure in their home state. MS in Professional Counseling
Masters of Science in Professional Counseling. The curriculum offers an in-depth examination of counseling theories, chemical dependency, marriage and family, social and cultural issues, psychopharmacology, diagnostics, assessment and treatment, psychopathology, research methods, and more. In addition, four practicum-internships provide a total of 600 contact hours of opportunity for students to develop counseling skills. Courses in this rigorous program were chosen to meet the academic requirements established by the National Board for Certified Counselors for the National Certified Counselor credential (NCC) and by Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. A master’s degree in counseling is required in 48 states for individuals seeking to become licensed as counselors. Graduates from this program are prepared to meet the academic requirements for licensure in Arizona as a: Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor (LASAC) and Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC).
